My name is Katie Corse. Here you will learn more about me and my interests. To give you a little about me now I enjoy laughing a lot, playing tennis, listening to music, hanging out with my friends, watching movies, and reading.

Overall Reflection

This semester English 103 was by far my most favorite class. I have always enjoyed English, but after taking this semester of English, I think I want to become a high school English teacher. I am still an undeclared major, but if I have n0t found something that I want to become I will be happy with teaching English for the rest of my life. This semester’s class was very enjoyable.

Not only was this class fun, but it was educational. We did a lot of fun activities in this class. I think my favorite was when we were learning about pop culture and we played Trivial Pursuit. Not only did I learn a lot about pop culture that day but I also learned a lesson that was not intended to be taught: when it comes down to it, we are all minorities.

When deciding the groups that we were going to be put in, Troy told all the white people to stay on one side of the room and everyone else to go to the other. When it came down to it, we discovered that there were too many white people to be on just one team. So he started naming nationalities to go to the non-white side. After all of the nationalities were named we were all apart of a minority. This is a lesson I will always keep with me. I now know that there is no majority of one race because our ancestors all had to become something when they were all apart of nothing.

The papers that were written were an important part of the class. I think the most important one that was written was the first essay that was written. Although I had not had much experience in writing, I think that this is the best essay I have written for this class. It took some time to help me get through it, but once I got started it was easy to brainstorm on ideas.

This semester helped me become a better writer. Now when I write papers I know not to wait to the last minute before doing them. I know that the reason a week is given to write a 5 page paper is because it has to be a well developed paper. I still have a hard time with the length of papers or elaborating on the meaning behind things, but this class has helped me to develop better skills when writing a paper.

Like I said before this class was by far the best class I had this semester. I had a lot of fun learning about myself. I know that I have the potential to become a good writer, but I just need to keep building my writing skills. My goal for the rest of the English classes I take here at NIU is to become the best writer to my potential. I have a lot of work, but I am willing to put forth the effort.
